Short Biography

Journalist crew member of “Spirit of Cardiff”, the most successful offshore powerboat in history – two transatlantics including official world record, and circumnavigation of the world. Planning another circumnavigation world record attempt with Team Britannia in an 80ft powerboat in late 2017.

Former bass player in a rock band, re-discovered walking in his mid-twenties. Speciality reviews of clothing and equipment for walking, backpacking and adventure travel. Equipment editor / consultant to four major walking titles and regular columnist for many more, including the Daily Telegraph. Currently lightweight backpacking and travel equipment reviewer for Camping magazine.

Contributes travel and outdoors features to national newspapers and magazines, and photographs to Alamy picture library.

Also member British Guild of Travel Writers and Mensa – and still plays a mean bass!
