I’m an outdoor journalist with more than 17 years’ experience of writing and editing for magazines, newspapers, books and websites. I also coach runners and enjoy public speaking. I started out as a football journalist at Haymarket’s FourFourTwo.com and became editor of travel magazine TNT Australia & New Zealand.
After seven years of travelling and living abroad, moved back to the UK in 2010 and went freelance, specialising in my passion for outdoor adventure. That usually means writing about long-distance running and walking, fitness, reviewing gear and technology, authoring guidebooks, or working on video projects.
I’ve hiked many of the world’s famous and not-so-famous long-distance trails. I’ve climbed, and fallen down, a few mountains.
My boots and daps are regularly muddied in Britain’s glorious South West, especially in the Brecon Beacons and the Cotswolds – where I grew up and now live again.
I just love being in the great outdoors, ideally exercising somewhere lumpy.
Currently writing, subediting, coaching, public speaking, running and stuff like that.
A Race Through The Greatest Running Stories (author), Year On The Run (author), Long Distance Walking in Britain (author), Theguardian.co.uk, Telegraph.co.uk, Outdoor Fitness, Country Walking, Women’s Running, Men’s Health, Runner’s World, Time Out, Rough Guides, Footprint Travel Guides, Aurum Press, Outer Edge, Get Lost, Men’s Fitness, Cicerone and stuff like that.
Won none, obviously. My mum says she loves me though. And I think she may even mean it.
