Short Biography

I live in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex, and walk, talk and write about walking, local history and all things 1066. A successful lecturer and trainer, I have now been able to channel my enthusiasm into writing, leading walks and presenting talks on my walks and books.
I am the author and creator of 1066 Harold’s Way, a 100mile long distance walk inspired by King Harold’s epic march to the Battle of Hastings, 1066 and Three Castles and an Ironmaster’s House, a 50 mile walk around the history of the High Weald.
Devising, walking and writing 1066 Harold’s Way gave me an insight into the fascinating events that led to the Battle of Hastings, and the immediate aftermath, and that created the opportunity to explore all the events of that fateful year in The Saxon Times.
I have also published a series of History Walks in 1066 Country, the latest of which is ‘Rock a Nore to De la Warr’.
I consider that my membership of CAMRA, The Ramblers and the Long Distance Walkers Association to be a perfect match for walking.
I am currently updating 1066 Harold’s Way and writing up the ‘Beer Notes’ seen as a necessary adjunct to the walk. My next project is to complete 1066 The Final Journey, an 85 mile walk across the breadth of Sussex, from Battle to Bosham, inspired by one of the legends of what happened to King Harold’s body after the Battle of Hastings. I’m half way there!

Professional Activities

Following retirement from Barclays, I taught in Further and Higher Education, trained Community Groups in all things business and latterly enabled those unfortunate enough to be unemployed to have the confidence and skills to successfully return to work. I now spend my time walking, talking and writing.
