Edinburgh-based writer and photographer specialising in hillwalking, backpacking and wild camping throughout Scotland and beyond, and with an interest in environment and access issues.
I’m a writer and photographer with many years of hillwalking and backpacking experience, especially in Scotland. I also have an interest in wider outdoors issues such as inclusion and accessibility, car-free access, environmental concerns, the politics of landscape and conservation, and connecting children with the outdoors.
While my first love is the mountains of the Highlands, many years based in London helped me develop an appreciation for other types of landscape: chalk downs, ancient woodlands, heath, mixed farmland, salt marshes, and urban green spaces, planned and accidental. Though I live in Scotland again, my landscape tastes have remained varied. I love to find the wild wherever I go.
My local hills are the Pentlands. Since 2015 I’ve been a volunteer ranger with the Pentland Hills Regional Park. I’m married with two children and an allotment.
My articles and features have appeared in UK Hillwalking, The Great Outdoors and Outdoor Enthusiast. I’m currently working on my first guidebook in collaboration with two other authors.
