Walking in County Durham
Now in its fourth edition, Walking in County Durham has been completely overhauled. This involved re-visiting the county and checking all the walking routes, changing whatever needed to be changed. While some places change very little, the ongoing conversion of the coastline from pollution and squalor to a thing of great beauty is something that only becomes apparent after making several visits over several years. Old colliery spoils are now landscaped areas and the remnants of industry are now highlighted as heritage features. County Durham’s finest countryside is in the high Pennines, above Teesdale and Weardale. The pictures in the book have largely been replaced and the Ordnance Survey mapping has been tweaked wherever minor route changes have been made.
