Am originally from UK but have called Australia home for the past 25 years or so. Am usually in UK/Europe for a number of months each year.
My writing tends to focus on adventure topics – trek, bike, ski, kayak – but also covering family travel, profiles etc. I also have a particular interest in environmentally responsible travel given my long involvement in the fight against plastic pollution; now very much an issue for our times.
Long human powered journeys in wild places across the world have long been my thing including 25,000km around and across Australia. Most recently was a year-long circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea by sea kayak, foot, ocean rowboat and bike. A journey that started and finished at Gallipoli in Turkey and traversed 13,000km through 17 countries.
I speak regularly on adventure and environmental topics with gigs in places as varied as Australia, UK, Italy, Slovenia, India, Hong Kong, Croatia, Malta and beyond.
Mediterranean – A year around a charmed and troubled sea, published in 2017. tells the story of my Mediterranean journey and is an account of the people, land and seascapes of the Mediterranean countries of Europe and North Africa at a time of economic and human turmoil.
