In 2022 I set up Sparky Books with my friend and co-publisher Peter Burton. We had enjoyed tackling long-distance walks together but couldn't find quite what we wanted in any walking guides on the market so decided to create our own. Our USP is that we include 'nuggets' of information of the maps to bring alive the landscapes and features you see around you as you walk. We published our first two walking guides - to the South Downs Way and the Ridgeway - in early 2024, our third to the Capital Ring came out in May 2024, and we have two more scheduled for later in 2024 - the Cotswold Way and the Thames Path.
I take on the majority of the writing and editing in the guides. I worked for many years for Time Out Travel Guides as Deputy Series Editor and writer/editor of a number of city guides, which provided brilliant training in writing concisely and pithily.
I also worked for more than a decade as a primary school teacher in London, and still tutor privately.
My interest in walking and the natural world has only increased with the years. I am also a keen if only semi-competent gardener.
